Dr. Brian Lee
Our experienced optometrist, Dr. Brian Lee, brings over 20 years of expertise to Eye Candy Opticians. A graduate of the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry, Dr. Lee is a member of The College of Optometrists of Ontario and the Ontario Association of Optometrists. His soothing voice has even been described as perfect for meditation audio!
OHIP Coverage For Eye Exams

At Eye Candy Opticians, we help you utilize your OHIP coverage effectively. Find out your eligibility for our comprehensive eye care services.
Coverage for Children and Youth
Patients 19 and Under: OHIP covers a comprehensive eye exam once every year for patients aged 19 and under. This includes any necessary follow-up assessments. Regular eye exams are crucial for detecting vision problems early and ensuring healthy vision development.
Coverage for Seniors
Patients 65 and Over: OHIP provides coverage for a comprehensive eye exam every 18 months for patients aged 65 and over. However, if you have specific medical conditions such as diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal disease, corneal disease, uveitis, optic pathway disease, or are taking certain medications, you are eligible for a yearly exam and two additional follow-up assessments if necessary.
Coverage for Adults
Patients 20-64 Years Old: OHIP does not generally cover eye exams for patients aged 20 to 64 unless they have an eligible medical condition. These conditions include:
- Diabetes: Patients with diabetes are covered for a yearly eye exam
- Glaucoma: Patients diagnosed with glaucoma are eligible for a yearly eye exam.
- Cataracts: If surgery is required due to significant impact on vision.
- Retinal Disease: Coverage for progressive or acute retinal diseases.
- Corneal Disease: Coverage for progressive or acute corneal diseases.
- Uveitis: Active cases at the time of the exam.
- Cataracts: If surgery is required due to significant impact on vision.
- Optic Pathway Disease: Coverage for progressive or acute diseases.
- Sudden Onset of Strabismus: From injury or disease.
- Medications: Patients taking Chloroquine, Hydroxychloroquine, Ethambutol, or Tamoxifen
